However, just because it isn’t what I expected, doesn’t mean it isn’t good. I’ve struggled a bit with this series as it just doesn’t seem to have the angst that I’ve come to expect from a Lorraine Heath book. The fourth, The Duchess in His Bed, is Aiden’s story which ends in a delicious scandal with said duchess, 4 Stars. The third, The Scoundrel in Her Bed, is Finn’s second chance with the woman he fell for as a young man, 3.5 Stars. The second is Gillie’s story, When a Duke Loves a Woman, in which she ends up a duchess, 4 Stars. The first book, Beyond Scandal and Desire is about Mick and his quest for vengeance against his father, 3.5 Stars. The children are all around the same age and when they are about 14, Ettie falls victim to “alternative” payment to their landlord and finds herself with child, this one a girl whom she names Fancy, with the hope that she will grow up to live a fancy life. There are four boys, Mick, Finn, Aiden, and Beast, and one girl, Gillie. Instead of doing away with the babies, as was common practice by baby farmers, she decides to raise them as her own.

The series is centered on the Trewloves, a group of bastards all taken in by a baby farmer named Ettie Trewlove. The Earl Takes a Fancy is the fifth book in her current series, Sins for All Seasons. I was super excited to receive an ARC for a Lorraine Heath book, she is one of my all time favs! I’ve read quite a few of her books over the years, mainly her different series set in Victorian London, in fact maybe I need to do an ode to Heath soon! I’ve also heard great things about her westerns, they are definitely on my TBR. It’s Tuesday and that means new books are out today, yay! If you’re into historical romance, like me, there are quite a few new releases to keep you busy during quarantine, including the book I reviewed last week, Lord Holt Takes a Bride by Vivienne Lorret, as well as The Earl Takes a Fancy by the fabulous Lorraine Heath.
